The title of this blog is found in every souvenir shop, no matter the country or language. It is a universal sentiment.

We also find ourselves revert to this cliché on many occasions, mainly when referring to something or someone we love.

But, do we ever pause to reflect on it?

A phrase that has so deeply embedded into popular culture, does it have any deeper significance?

Biologically, we know the heart is located in our body. Mentally and emotionally, we associate it with a person or activity we love. And spiritually? Maybe we think of it as devotion to a deity or alignment with our intentions.

Digging a little deeper – like we would for building the foundation of a house – what if we could unite the location of the heart – Biologically, Emotionally, and Spiritually?

Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Built on a solid foundation, our heart – our home, would be rid of cracks and flutters; and instead become a haven – secure, peaceful, and complete.

If you want the secret to this, I invite you to read further.

Close your eyes and imagine building your heart like you would your home – your dream home. What does it look like? Who are you sharing it with? What is the emotion you feel when you walk in? How deep is your sense of security here?

And now, open your eyes to the beautiful truth – Your heart is your home!

It is built from the bricks of the food you eat and cemented with the blood that pumps through it.

  • So, think about the food you consume, think of how well-nourished the body that builds the heart is.

It is decorated with the thoughts you allow to flow in, the ideas you read about, the songs you dance to, the experiences you curate, and the relationships you nurture.

  • So, pick the books you want to read, learn the skill you’ve been wanting to, take the trip that promises adventure, and never stop getting to know, and grow yourself.

Finally, the hearth of your heart is warmed by the people you love and the fire of your faith in yourself.

  • So, make the phone calls you’ve been delaying, express your gratitude for the people in your life, and trust yourself – you are more capable and stronger than you believe.

All of this isn’t even the best part – it is this: Just like our home, our hearts too, can be renovated and rebuilt!

All it will cost is:

  • Your awareness of yourself with a desire for change

  • The tools of discipline and motivation

  • The courage to take the first step

  • And a conviction to embrace the pains of change.

With just these, and a sprinkle of love, your heart can become your haven, wherever in the world you may be!

So, are you ready to embrace your heart as your home – truly – and embark on the wonderful journey of decorating, redesigning, or rebuilding it?
